Experience the perfect blend of wildlife, history, culture, and natural beauty with this unforgettable adventure. Enjoy an exciting 2-day safari in Tsavo East National Park, home to elephants, lions, giraffes, and breathtaking savannah landscapes, combined with a coastal excursion exploring the ancient Gede Ruins, vibrant Malindi Town, and the stunning Marafa Hell’s Kitchen sunset experience.
Departure around 06:15 from your resort. The road to Tsavo East Reserve is a red dirt road, and we will pass through the largest forest in Kenya and typical African villages. Our first stop will be at Crocodile Point, where we can admire crocodiles in the Galana River and watch the monkeys. We will arrive at the park entrance around 10:00 and immediately begin the Game Drive (photo safari) until lunchtime, searching for animals such as lions, elephants, giraffes, antelopes, cheetahs, leopards, hippos, zebras, and many others that inhabit the African savannah.
We will arrive at the lodge or camp around 13:00. After checking in and receiving your room, you can enjoy a buffet lunch and relax in your room or by the pool. At around 15:45, we will depart for the second game drive until sunset, when we will return to the lodge or camp for dinner and overnight stay.
Breakfast at 06:00, and at 06:30, we check out and set off for the last game drive, searching for more animals. Afterward, we exit the park to return to your resort. On the way back, if you have brought clothing or food, we can stop to donate them to the families and children we encounter. The return is always in time for you to have lunch at your hotel.
Begin your adventure with a visit to the historic Gede Ruins, where you’ll explore the remains of an ancient Swahili town surrounded by lush forest and playful monkeys. Continue to Malindi Town to discover local markets and the vibrant coastal culture.
Afterwards, head to the breathtaking Marafa Hell’s Kitchen, famous for its dramatic sandstone canyons and stunning sunset views. End the day with a relaxing drive back to your hotel after an unforgettable mix of history, culture, and natural beauty.

The drive to the Sala Gate entrance of Tsavo East takes approximately 2 to 2.5 hours from Watamu or Malindi. Because the park is so close to the coast, it is the most accessible “Big Five” destination for travelers staying at beach resorts.
Tsavo East is famous for its vast, open savannahs and its “red elephants,” which get their color from dusting themselves in the park’s distinctive oxide-rich soil. It is also home to the Aruba Dam, which attracts thousands of animals, and the Yatta Plateau, the world’s longest lava flow.
Day 1: Early morning pick-up from your hotel, entry into the park, and a mid-morning game drive. After lunch at your lodge or camp, you will head out for an afternoon game drive when predators become more active.
Day 2: An early morning “sunrise” game drive (the best time to spot lions and leopards), followed by breakfast at the lodge and a final game drive as you head toward the gate to exit the park for your return to the coast.
While wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, Tsavo East is home to:
The “Red” Elephants and Cape Buffalo.
Lions, Leopards, and Cheetahs.
Giraffes, Zebras, and various species of Antelope (such as Waterbuck and Impala).
Over 500 species of birds.
Hippos and Crocodiles (usually found near the Galana River).
For this 2-day excursion, we typically use a 4×4 Safari Land Cruiser. This vehicle features a “pop-up roof” that allows you to stand up and take unobstructed photos of the wildlife and landscape.
Accommodation is usually provided in either a Safari Lodge (permanent structures with hotel-like amenities) or a Tented Camp (large, permanent walk-in tents with en-suite bathrooms and beds). Most options overlook waterholes, allowing you to watch animals from your balcony.
International and domestic flights (unless pre-arranged).
Tips and gratuities for your guide and lodge staff.
Optional activities (e.g., Hot Air Balloon rides in the Mara, Maasai Village visits, or Hell’s Gate cycling).
Personal travel insurance and laundry services.
Alcoholic drinks and sodas.
Yes. While this itinerary is for 2 days, many travelers choose to add a second night to visit Tsavo West National Park (known for Mzima Springs and the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary) or Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary.
Absolutely. Because the drive from the coast is relatively short compared to other parks, the 2-day Tsavo East safari is the best option for families with young children who may not handle long hours in a car well.
